Purpose:

The purpose of University Awareness for Cultural Togetherness (U-ACT) is to improve cultural awareness and respect for diversity on the Texas A&M University campus through peer diversity education.

History:

U-ACT began modestly in 1991 with a student committee of six people and a one-day, on-campus diversity workshop for student leaders. During the next two years, the workshop was expanded to an overnight retreat in the fall and the spring semesters. In the fall of 1994, the program formally became the student component of a Campus-wide Diversity Education Program, which was housed in the Department of Multicultural Services.  U-ACT enjoyed years of success in the 90’s presenting at national conferences and being the premier peer diversity education group on campus.  In the spring of 2005 U-ACT was rejuvenated and new facilitators underwent intensive training throughout the fall semester.  Our future goals are to reclaim our early success and become an internationally recognized leader in student peer diversity education initiatives.

U-ACT Facilitators:

U-ACT strives to foster an inclusive campus by facilitating peer diversity education initiatives that include, but are not limited to, custom tailored workshops, standard and dramatic presentations, passive programming, campus wide retreats, train the trainer workshops and round table conversations.  U-ACT members are students who are passionate about the subject of diversity and whose goals are to try and help improve cross cultural communication in an effort to create a more inclusive campus. U-ACT Retreat for All Aggies:

U-ACT provides a thought-provoking and intensive leadership retreat for students.  It is conducted by the student peer facilitators and creates a comfortable atmosphere for student leaders to share information and learn about themselves as well as others.
